Longchamp May 18
« on: May 18, 2008, 14:25 »

Coastal Path just completed his six-timer (still unbeaten). This was his most impressive performance, cantering away from the three others.
Forget Yeats and the others for the Gold Cup - this horse must be a certainty!

Next up we have the Prix Sant-Alary where Proviso tries to get back on track. But Albisola looks the one to be on - reportedly working very well and this has been her target for some weeks. As ever with a fillies' race, not one to go overboard with. Gagnoa is the other leading chance, but she might get caught out by a slow pace (probaly needs a little further). However, note that Coolmore sponsor this race for the first time, and they bought Gagnoa over the winter....a tip in itself?

At 16:20 (15:20 UK time) we have the Prix d'Ispahan. Darjina holds all the aces here, and at even money looks a decent bet. However, I'm siding with Turfrose, who can be backed at about 16/1 which is massive for a Fabre-trained Group One winner.

Good luck.

Prix Saint-Alary:

Belle Et Celebre, made all off a slow pace and held on bravely - breaks her maiden here in a Gr.1!
The friendless Gagnoa stayed on well and took second but the eye-catcher was Proviso who pulled hard in the rear but stayed on best.

Prix d'Ispahan:

Bit of a shock with the hitherto disappointing Sageburg doing these for a turn of foot and winning cosily. However, this was not totally unexpected - why run the horse when you already have the Champion Darjina in the race? The colt was also nicely backed.
Darjina would have appreciated a stronger pace - she flattered 200m out but didn't have the pace of the winner.
Literato was weak in the market and a major disappointment (once again for Godolphin) finished plumb last.
